Bob Appleton is a retired Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant. During a period covering forty years, including combat service in Vietnam and Afghanistan, he developed the leadership skills that contributed to the many successes accomplished by the Marines in his charge. On this site, he shares his leadership philosophy, both in an outline summerizing his top priorities as a leader, and in the text of an in-depth interview conducted by Michael J. Simek,a gifted leader of Marines in his own right. These materials are available under the "Leadership" tab.
Effective communication between all partners in an endeavor has been the key to the success of our organization. A lifetime of experience as a Marine honed Bob's communication skills. As a senior enlisted leader in the Marine Corps, effective communication was essential to his success in that arena.
From time to time, Bob was presented the opportunity to take the Marine Corps' message to a wider audience. Some of his insights into military matters, leadership and the defense of our nation are included here in the "Communication" section.
